I will NOT play MAD!

MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction.

I can’t believe this is considered a military “strategy.” When peoples’ lives are in the balance, this isn’t a game, this isn’t a strategy. It’s pure destruction with peoples’ hopes, dreams, and lives being used as chess pawns in a bloody “competition.”

But these pawns have minds of their own. These pawns don’t only move in pre-set ways. We can move diagonally, vertically, L- shaped, even X-shaped… whatever it is that we need to get away from that hand, picking us up and moving us in its own direction. We can surprise that playing hand. We can take a third, fourth, fifth, and even sixth route! All designed to take us upon the path to less destruction.

We will NOT play MAD.

During the latest MAD episodes in Lebanon, some people have played along with the game, improving upon their desired roles, reading their script to perfection. EVEN adding to it, but never swaying from those original pathways.

Yet, I have seen others who refused to play MAD. Who carried out their own choices, who chose their own gameplay.

But it isn’t enough. These lucky pawns knew how to evade the playing hand. Knew how to create their own moves. Now they have to spread that little secret. It is their social responsibility to make others resist the rules of the game.

Inspired by a discussion with Hala H. Hassan, a student who refuses to play MAD, a student who’d rather use her own brand of “madness” in extremely creative ways!

Let’s share her cause. Don’t play MAD. (Super Mario still an equally valid option!)
